- Structure of the Market
- Buy-side vs Sell-side
- On-exchange vs OTC
- Trading/Matching/Settlement
- Banks vs asset managers vs investment companies’ vs brokers
- Broad economic framework: savers/lenders/households/business/govt.
- What are interest rates?
- Role of the SARB. Repo rate/Risk free rate vs bank Prime/Open Window operations.
- Inflation – what is it? How is measured?
- Role of the Government and regulators.
- Taxes. What are they for? Taxation vs Borrowing, difference between monetary and fiscal policy and why it counts. GDP/GNP.
- Forex in/outlows. Current account. Global Forex markets.
