The team's strategic prowess and passion for investing are testament to the success of the JSE's initiative to enhance financial literacy among students.

Johannesburg, 27 July 2023: Showcasing exceptional strategic thinking and investment skills, Team ACCP-88mph from ACUDEO College Crystal Park, Gauteng, has seized the victory in the Schools Equity Portfolio category for the June edition of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) Investment Challenge.

Team members of Team ACCP-88mph comprising of, Chuma Makhanda, Kago Molamu, Lesego Manakana, and Lehlohonolo Mokwena, demonstrated that their investment acumen and teamwork could deliver remarkable results in the competitive realm of equity investment.

The team achieved portfolio growth of 2.24% in June, amid challenging market conditions characterised by economic volatility and shifting global trends. Their performance signifies the effectiveness of their strategic approach and their remarkable ability to navigate complex financial landscapes.

Team member Lehlogonolo Mokoena emphasized the need for collaboration in the decision-making process.

"The invaluable lesson I distilled from the JSE Investment Challenge is this: collaboration isn't just important, it's pivotal. It serves as the compass guiding us toward astute decision-making," Mokoena said.

Teammate Kago Molamu outlined their strategy, saying, "Our prime tactic was not merely an attraction to blue chip stocks. Instead, it was a carefully considered strategy, recognising their inherent ability to anchor our portfolio amid financial unpredictability."

Aimed at fostering a culture of investment and enhancing financial literacy among South African youth at both school and tertiary levels, the Investment Challenge is an engaging platform that allows participants to exercise their investing skills. This stimulating challenge provides each participant team with a virtual fund of R1 million, giving them an opportunity to experience trading with actual JSE listed shares over a period of six months.

Their investing abilities are evaluated against their peers, tracking their performances throughout the challenge. After the closing bell in September, the most accomplished teams are awarded exceptional prizes.

To keep the spirit of competition high and acknowledge consistent performance, monthly accolades are awarded to the best-performing teams. At the culmination of the challenge, overall victors are rewarded with a share of R1 million in prizes, which notably includes a trip to an international stock exchange for the university competition participants.

"Seeing the level of commitment and growth displayed by these students throughout the competition is genuinely impressive," said Ralph Speirs, CSI Officer at the JSE. "The JSE Investment Challenge offers an invaluable platform for youth to get a real-life experience of the financial world. Their development and growth through the competition are what make this initiative so fulfilling and impactful."
